Threadworm, or Pinworm infection as it is colloquially known, is the most common case of parasite in the United Kingdom, and cases are increasingly prevalent in children. It can be found in as many as half of children under the age of ten. Threadworms can have no symptoms, or may cause itchiness in the affected areas. There are several types of treatment available for Threadworms, but one must be vigilant and maintain the best hygiene possible to be safe from further infection. If your child is noticeably scratching their behind often, consult a GP or pharmacist. There are two common medications used to treat Threadworms, these are Mebendazole and Piperazine. The effects range from starving the threadworms to paralysing them, allowing those affected to pass them out of the bowel.
