Pepto-Bismol Tablets help to calm a whole range of digestive symptoms, including diarrhoea, feelings of nausea and upset stomach. They also help to treat indigestion and heartburn. These symptoms, which often come on after eating a meal and are known to doctors as dyspepsia, happen due to the leakage of excess acid from the stomach into the oesophagus (food pipe). Pepto-Bismol contains the active medicinal ingredient bismuth salicylate. This drug works by forming a protective coat in the digestive system, reducing inflammations and irritations of the stomach lining that can cause many uncomfortable digestive problems. It also helps to kill the bacteria that can cause diarrhoea. Pepto-Bismol also helps to reduce the symptoms of nausea and diarrhoea.
