Gaviscon Strawberry Tablets combine the effective medicinal power of Gaviscon with the pleasant flavour of strawberries. With this handy pack of tablets, you can fight the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion while enjoying a fresh and fruity sensation. The tablets contain the active ingredients sodium alginate and sodium bicarbonate. These act in two different but equally effective ways, together helping to provide effective and long lasting relief against the symptoms of acid reflux. Technically referred to as dyspepsia, reflux occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach seep back into the oesophagus, or food pipe. This causes burning sensations and pain (heartburn and indigestion) in the short term, while if on-going can lead to irritation and swelling of the tube (reflex oesophagitis). The sodium alginate in Gaviscon helps to form a raft-like layer over the stomach contents, stopping them from leaking into the oesophagus. At the same time, the sodium carbonate acts as an antacid, neutralising the harshness and greatly reducing the unpleasant symptoms you experience.
